A new phone experience will enhance and modernize university technology.
Information Technology Services is transitioning university desk phones to Zoom Phone, a softphone application that makes and receives calls over the internet. Zoom Phone will provide an enhanced calling experience and modernize university technology. With Zoom Phone, you will still have all the functionality of your current phone, plus new features like voice transcriptions, a mobile app and more.
What is changing?
University desk phones will be replaced with Zoom Phone, a type of softphone application that is installed on computers or mobile devices to make calls over the internet. ITS will begin to make this transition starting in May 2025 and continuing through Fall 2025. These migrations will occur in phases, and you will be notified before your phone migrates.
What is Zoom Phone?
Zoom Phone is a full-service, cloud-based calling solution that will better support all our in-person, hybrid and fully remote faculty and staff. The Zoom Phone application will be installed on employee computers or mobile devices, enabling calls to be made over the internet and eliminating the need for physical handsets.
Why is it changing?
Zoom Phone will modernize and simplify the employee experience. Employees will be able to place and receive calls on their desktop or laptop from anywhere with an internet connection. The new phone system also enhances the university's operational efficiency by reducing service costs to departments.
