Student Technology Fee Awards Program now accepting proposals for 2026–2027

Florida State University faculty and staff are invited to help shape the future of technology-enhanced learning through the 2026–2027 Student Technology Fee Awards Program. Beginning Monday, Aug. 3, departments across the university can submit proposals for innovative instructional technology projects that enhance teaching, learning and student success.
Each year, the Student Technology Fee (STF) provides millions of dollars in funding for instructional technology, empowering academic and non-academic departments to bring groundbreaking ideas to life and create transformative learning experiences for students.
Recent Student Technology Fee investments demonstrate the program's impact across a wide range of disciplines. In the FSU Undergraduate Department of Aerospace Studies, funding supported a state-of-the-art flight simulator that provides students with hands-on aviation experience using professional pilot training technology. Designated as an Advanced Aviation Training Device by the Federal Aviation Administration, this flight simulator is one of the most advanced available at any public university in Florida. The STF gives students affordable access to flight training while also supporting Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) instruction, Aviation Club programming and career preparation for future pilots.
The program has also expanded opportunities for cutting-edge research and experiential learning across campus. In FSU's Sport Psychology Lab, this funding enabled researchers to acquire a research-grade electroencephalogram (EEG) system, allowing students and faculty to study brain activity related to movement, balance and human performance using advanced neuroscience tools.
Additionally, the Textile Testing Lab in the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship used the Student Technology Fee support to modernize nearly all of its testing equipment, giving students hands-on experience with industry-standard technology used to evaluate fabric safety, durability and performance. These projects illustrate how the fee helps transform classrooms and laboratories into high-impact learning environments.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to consider how new or expanded technology could improve instruction, support research and enhance student engagement within their departments. Whether developing a new learning space, upgrading instructional equipment or introducing emerging technologies into the classroom, the program provides an opportunity to turn innovative ideas into reality.
The Student Technology Fee Advisory Committee will evaluate proposals based on comparative scores and available funding. Broad participation from departments across the university helps ensure continued investment in projects that advance innovation and enrich the educational experience for Florida State University students.
Proposal submissions are now open and will be accepted through 5 p.m. EDT on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. Faculty and staff interested in applying can visit the Student Technology Fee website for proposal guidelines, eligibility requirements and submission instructions.
