Overview

The FSU high performance computing (HPC) cluster is an integrated group of systems connected by an ultra-fast InfiniBand data network. The HPC, provided by the ITS Research Computing Center, is designed to run compute-intensive programs that require more memory and CPUs than an average computer can support. The HPC is ideal for distributed parallel computations, data processing and analysis and long-running batch computing jobs. Using the HPC, university researchers can process and analyze complex datasets and computationally intensive tasks, condensing weeks of work into days or hours.

Highlights

Powerful Computing

>18,000 cores and >700 nodes provide powerful and scalable HPC resources

Popular Platforms

run jobs using OpenMPI, Python, MATLAB, GPUs, CUDA and more

Software Compatibility

use general purpose applications or write and compile custom software to run on HPC

Batch Jobs

ability to submit jobs to run independently until finished

Cost Details

HPC resources are sold in increments of Normalized Compute Units (NCU), which consist of one processor core and 4-8GB of RAM.
NCU per 5 years*     $161.38
NCU per year           $35.50
NCU per month        $3.23
NCU per hour           $0.01
*NCUs with five years of service will be extended with a two year no-cost best-effort extension to make the migration to newer grants easier.

Contact the RCC for federally funded grant pricing.

Additional Information

Research groups who buy into the HPC gain priority access to resources and a dedicated job scheduler account for queuing jobs.

Faculty sponsors can request HPC accounts for students and staff.

The Open OnDemand web portal is the recommended way for accessing the HPC. It provides easy access to HPC file systems and clusters and allows users to upload and download files, submit and manage jobs and run GUI applications—all via a web browser without installing additional software. To get started, see How to Connect to Open OnDemand.
