Never Lose an Email with 365 Email Archiving
Microsoft 365 archive mailboxes give users a dedicated mailbox to store older emails, keeping their primary mailbox organized and more manageable. With Online or In-Place Archiving, users can access their archive mailbox directly in Outlook and Outlook on the web, just like any other folder tree in their mailbox. They can browse, search, copy, or move messages between their primary mailbox and archive folder structure, reducing clutter and increasing storage.
What is Changing?
Users without an online archive mailbox activated in their FSU email will be automatically enrolled between May and August 2026. Once this occurs, users will be able to access their archived emails on their mobile or desktop devices in Outlook and Outlook on the web as long as they are connected to the internet. Once this function is enabled, emails older than 365 days will be archived, replicating any filing system in the primary inbox. Following this, new emails will automatically be archived individually after 365 days. Users with an FSU email address created after August 2024 already have this function enabled and will see no changes to their mailboxes.
Why is it Changing?
When online archiving is enabled, it provides significantly more storage capacity, helping prevent full mailboxes and improving overall mailbox performance. Online archiving offers users an additional 1.5 TB of storage. Users will be able to access their regular mailbox data and their archived data in the following clients: Outlook for Mac, Outlook for Windows, and Outlook on the web. Archive mailbox data will not be viewable in a native email client on iOS or Android devices, or in third-party clients.
