Shaping FSU’S Tech Future with the IT Governance Council

Thursday 04/10/2025

The Information Technology Governance Council (ITGC) was established in 2009 to ensure FSU ITS initiatives align with the university's strategic goals and objectives. At a macro level, the ITGC serves as soundboard to represent the FSU’s community unique needs and interests. The council collaborates with multiple committees: Student Technology Fee Advisory Committee, Research Information Technology Advisory Committee, Administrative Technologies Advisory Committee, Student Success Information Technologies Advisory Committee, Learning Technologies Advisory Committee and the University Cybersecurity Committee.

The council consists of 21 faculty, student and staff members from multiple departments, including Academic Affairs, Finance & Administration and Faculty Senate. Faculty members are chosen by the provost for three-year terms. Meanwhile, the Faculty Senate, Student Government Association, and Congress of Graduate Students representatives serve two, one, and one-year terms, respectively. Ex officio members serve open-ended terms with mutual consent from the provost and the member. These roles enable each member to make a meaningful contribution to the ITGC.

Along with acting as a soundboard, the ITGC takes on key responsibilities to ensure that IT initiatives and operations align with the FSU Strategic Plan. These include:

  • Representing the IT needs for students, faculty, staff and researchers
  • Reviewing technology developments for potential university adoption
  • Providing formal recommendations to the university on critical IT operations
  • Preparing feedback IT initiatives’ progress
  • Advising the Provost on Student Technology Fee project funding proposals
  • Evaluating how the university’s technology supports its mission, goals, programs, and services

The ITGC remains committed to advancing the university’s best interests. If you have questions about the ITGC, visit the ITGC homepage for more information.
