ITS implements cookie consent solution

“This website uses cookies to enhance your browsing experience.”

It is a pop-up banner we have all seen a thousand times. And soon, all FSU websites will display a similar banner and message.

Starting December 10, FSU websites will begin to show a cookie consent banner to all visitors. The banner will let web visitors choose whether to allow cookies.

Computer cookies are small files saved on your device by websites. They remember your preferences and activities to make browsing easier, like keeping you logged in and showing personalized content.

This change gives individuals control over their personal data and how it is used. You can control what cookies are installed on your device and what data is collected and shared. You can close the banner to accept all cookies or click “Manage Preferences” to dive deeper into what each cookie tracks, opting in and out of specific cookies and ensuring you are sharing only what is necessary. The banner will go away after you acknowledge your preferences, but you can adjust your cookie preferences any time by clearing cookies in your web browser, causing the banner to return.

While there are no federal regulations for privacy in the United States, other countries have stringent data protection laws. Because FSU has campuses worldwide, this change further assists the university in complying with international privacy and security laws when conducting business on a global scale.
