We Are IT | Meet Brandon Casey

Monday 07/07/2025

Born in Mississippi and raised in Naples, Florida, Brandon Casey is a proud Florida State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in information technology. He got his start with ITS in Spring 2022 as a user experience research intern, later joining the Security Operations Center as an intern before transitioning to a full-time role in 2024. Now serving as an engagement coordinator on the Culture and Engagement team, Brandon develops onboarding, training, and professional development programs while also supporting event planning and team collaboration. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, exploring national parks, gaming with friends, and spending time with his playful cat, Rainy.

Where are you from?

I was born in Mississippi and moved to Naples, Florida, when I was a toddler.

Where did you attend school?

I graduated with my bachelor’s in information technology from Florida State in 2023. And this coming fall, I am excited to start my master’s in information management at the University of Washington.

Why did you choose to work in technology?

One of the things I love most about technology is its interdisciplinary nature. There are multiple fields and subfields where there is always something to learn more about. During my undergraduate years, I was especially drawn to the wide variety of courses and topics I chose from when picking out my courses.

How long have you been at FSU?

As a student, I have been at FSU since Fall 2020. In spring 2022, I began my career with ITS as a user experience research intern, and afterward, I took on a role as a Security Operations Center intern. Then, in 2024, I had the opportunity to join the team full-time.

What is your role at FSU?

I am the engagement coordinator on the culture and engagement team here at ITS. My role focuses on onboarding training and professional development programs for new and existing team members. I also help with event planning and running meetings.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

One of the aspects I enjoy most about my job is collaborating with teams across departments. It’s been especially exciting to welcome and work with the new teams that have joined ITS through the recent alignment.

What is the most rewarding project you have worked on at FSU?

The Employee Hub. My team and I have been working on a central hub that staff can use to find resources designed to keep them acquainted with the culture of ITS. There are also professional development opportunities and work programs available for staff.

What is your favorite app?

The New York Times games app. It’s fun playing Wordle, Connections and Strands after a long day.

If you were to invent one piece of technology, what would it be?

A wake-up button. No need to set an alarm or anything, the wake-up button would have me ready to go without trouble.

What is a fun fact about you?

One of my most rewarding experiences was being an FSU marching chief. I was a member for all four years of my undergrad.

Talk a little bit about your family.

My brother is a fellow Seminole and is currently a sophomore studying music. You could say that a passion for music runs in the family.

What do you do in your free time?

When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, going to national parks and playing video games with friends. I also have a cat named Rainy who is always ready to turn anything into a game.
