Wondering how you can do more to have a focus on environmental sustainability in the tech world? Green technology innovations have become increasingly popular and equally as important in today's world. Groundbreaking advancements have taken place over the world in recent years that span various sectors and have the potential to reshape industries while reducing our carbon footprint. Let’s explore some of the most exciting green technology innovations being implemented here at Florida State University.

Renewable Energy - The shift towards renewable energy sources like solar and wind power is a cornerstone of green technology. Solar panels are becoming more efficient and affordable, while wind turbines are growing in size and capability. These innovations are rapidly transitioning our energy landscape away from fossil fuels and towards clean, sustainable alternatives. FSU’s energy goals include focusing on proven conservation and efficiency strategies, upgrading lights with LED bulbs, and the use of solar power from Tallahassee’s solar farm and the Seminole Organic Garden!

Sustainable Transportation - Electric vehicles have surged in popularity and will only continue to do so thanks to improvements in battery technology, affordable pricing, and extended ranges. Electric vehicles are environmentally friendly as they reduce the amount of emissions polluting the air. If you have an electric vehicle on campus, FSU offers electric charging spaces in the Pensacola Street Garage, however, 100% of FSU’s bus fleet is currently electric! Have you spotted one of our buses charging?

Water Saving Technology - With growing concerns about water scarcity around some parts of the world and the overall conservation of water, efficient irrigation systems, water sensors, and water collection are needed to address these issues. FSU does its part with low irrigation planting, water sensors that automatically turn off irrigation systems when it rains, and stormwater managements which helps various lake and river ecosystems, as well as, drinking water supply for the state.

These green technology innovations support the promise of a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come. These innovations continue to evolve and become more widespread as they promote the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources, and foster a healthier environment.
