FSU phones move to Zoom Phone

Information Technology Services (ITS) is committed to continuous improvement, reducing technical debt and ensuring we provide the highest level of security for our services. One way we are doing this is by moving university phone lines to a new online application, Zoom Phone.

Starting in Summer 2025, ITS began transitioning university phones to Zoom Phone and removing all physical desk phones. Once phones are upgraded, faculty and staff will be able to make and receive calls over the internet via an application on their desktop, laptop or mobile devices—regardless of location. The new phone service offers expanded features, including call transcriptions and the ability to use your work number to receive calls on your personal mobile device.

 

Our team here at ITS has done an extensive amount of research into selecting a service that will enhance the user calling experience. Zoom Phone is one of the leading softphone applications used by several top universities and we are excited to implement it here at Florida State University.

Zoom Phone is a full-service, cloud-based calling solution that modernizes the employee experience and better supports in-person, hybrid and fully remote faculty and staff. The new phone service eliminates the need for onsite hardware that must be maintained and periodically replaced and offers several benefits and features.

• Expanded Features | Enjoy new features such as call transcriptions, one-tap video calls, mobile and desktop apps and more
• Strengthened Security | Make secure calls from any location without needing a virtual private network
• Unified Platform | Join meetings, video calls, phone calls and chat all from the same Zoom app

Migrations are occurring throughout 2025 and early 2026. ITS provides advance notice to colleges and departments when it is their turn to move and ensures employees have access to training materials, video walkthroughs and personalized support on how to be successful with the new Zoom Phone system.
