'Duo' you have a backup plan?
When setting up Duo mobile, you register a specific device to your account. We want to ensure that you are prepared for a new device, whether by choice or not. Even if you do not intend to get a new phone, accidents happen, and it is always good to have a backup plan. There are two ways you can be sure your account will be easily transferable to your new device. First, you can easily add devices to your 2FA account. We recommend adding at least two devices, such as a cellphone and tablet or smartwatch. This way, if you ever misplace one device, you can still use 2FA and add a new device once you get a replacement.
The second method is to enable Duo Restore. Duo Mobile’s restore functionality lets you back up Duo-protected accounts for recovery to the same device or a new device. To activate this function open your Duo Mobile app and go into the settings. At the top you will see “Backup third-party accounts,” and there you will be able to enable Duo Restore.
We would like to remind you that ITS will be closed for winter break from Friday, December 23 and will reopen Tuesday, January 2. These steps will help ensure you have no issue setting up Duo Mobile on any new devices you get this holiday season.
