ITS is leveraging AI to make data driven discoveries and decisions.
Recent advances in hardware along with the successful application of natural language processing, image classification, speech synthesis and other creative uses of computing power have driven a new field of computer science: machine learning. ITS is committed to supporting these advancements.
What is it?
The Machine Learning and Data Science Lab at the ITS Research Computing Center offers tools and expertise to serve the FSU research community. Our systems provide researchers and learners the opportunity to leverage contemporary data science tools and powerful supercomputing technologies—including parallel programming and graphical processing units—to gain new insights from data.
Research in the Lab
The Research Computing Center offers UROP projects that combine data science and high performance computing with applications across academic disciplines. These projects allow undergraduate students to experience cutting-edge research, culminating in symposium presentations and even publication in respected academic journals.
Predicting Presidential Elections Using Machine Learning
RCC staff member Dr. Prasad Maddumage employed the HPC to analyze the emotional undertone of thousands of tweets. He used a form of machine learning called sentiment analysis to gain insight into how the public felt about the 2016 general election.
