Introducing ITS professional development

Thursday 05/26/2022

The ITS Professional Development Committee is excited to launch the Professional Development Program. This program is specifically designed for FSU Information Technology Services employees to provide additional tools for the development of desired skills. Professional development is an important part of our values, as ITS is committed to transforming and empowering employees.

Benefits of Professional Development Program

Providing employees with the opportunity to grow in focused areas and giving their development path direction and structure is especially important. That is why we are excited to announce we have already posted four curated professional development paths. These paths are online resources ITS employees can complete at their own pace.

Employees will have the opportunity to choose their own path and decide what they would like to improve. The curated general professional development paths include:

  • Customer Service | This training teaches the fundamentals of customer service for FSU ITS employees.
  • Effective Communication | This training introduces the basics of effective and professional communications.
  • Basics for New Professionals | This resource is recommended for new professionals and interns in ITS.

Collaborating and coordinating development paths with peers and managers will help you on your development journey, so it is encouraged to brainstorm with your team and develop a vision for your future.

Additionally, we would like to recognize your achievements. We are excited to see how ITS employees will use this program to grow and develop into who they want to be.

“The thing I really like is the development paths empower the employee to transform their own professional development experience. Employees can choose from the pre-selected paths that others have designed, but we are also trusting in our employees to design their own paths to fit their team’s unique needs. Plus, it opens the door for collaborative and mentorship opportunities by allowing employees to share the development paths they create for others to build on. It also allows employees to tailor their experience to a variety of learning styles inclusively.”

Future of Professional Development

The ITS Professional Development Committee is preparing events starting this fall. We will be exploring ways of providing employees with technical training through vendor-supported certification courses and more. Events will be held monthly to bring ITS employees together and provide opportunities to network and collaborate. “Tech Talks,” “Lunch and Learns” and “Donuts and Development” are just a few of the regular events the Professional Development Committee will be hosting.

We Would Like Your Feedback

The Professional Development Committee will be adding additional development paths and are looking for suggestions and subject matter experts for training and development path mentors. Please fill out our professional development survey to provide us with training ideas and service ideas.
