Mac Mail IMAP

The steps below will configure the built-in Mac Mail application to connect to FSU employee email via IMAP. If you have already configured your email and are experiencing problems sending or receiving email, click here and confirm that your settings match the ones displayed.

1. Open Mail, and then do one of the following:

  • If you've never set up any e-mail accounts using Mail, a list of account types will be shown. Go to step 2
  • If you've already created e-mail accounts using Mail, open on the Mail menu and click Preferences. On the Accounts tab, click the plus sign (+) at the bottom of the navigation pane to open the Add Account window.

2. Select "Add Other Mail Account…" and click Continue

3. Enter the following information and click Create

  • Full Name: Your Name
  • Email Address: Email@fsu.edu
  • Password: FSUID password

4. Click Next

5. Ensure that "IMAP" is selected, enter the following information and click Next:

  • Mail Server: outlook.office365.com
  • User Name: FSUID@fsu.edu
  • Password: FSUID password

6. Enter the following information and click Create:

  • SMTP Server: smtp.office365.com
  • User Name: FSUID@fsu.edu
  • Password: FSUID password

Your email is now set up!

Verifying your settings

If you are experiencing problems sending or receiving email follow the steps below to check your settings.

1. Open up the Mail menu and click Preferences

2. In the Accounts tab ensure that your FSU email account is selected, expand the "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" dropdown and click Edit SMTP Server List...

3. Select your @fsu.edu server from the list displayed then click the Advanced tab and verify that your settings match the following and click OK:

  • Use custom port: 587
  • Authentication: Password
  • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): yes
  • User Name: FSUID@fsu.edu
  • Password: Your FSUID password

4. Click the Advanced tab and verify that your settings match the following:

  • IMAP Path Prefix: Leave blank
  • Port: 993
  • Use SSL: Yes
  • Authentication: Password
  • Use IDLE command if the server supports it: Yes

5. Close the settings window.

If you are still having problems sending or receiving email, try using the recommended settings.
