Florida State University Provost Jim Clark announced in February 2024 that the Office of Distance Learning will join the Information Technology Services team to align critical enterprise academic systems and technology support. This alignment supports the expanding role ITS is taking on in the advancement of technology resources and integrations at FSU, and we look forward to defining the future of technology in higher education—together.

Florida State University Provost Jim Clark announced that the Office of Distance Learning will be joining the Information Technology Services team on April 5, 2024. This union will align critical enterprise academic systems and technology support under the leadership of ITS chief information officer and associate vice president Jonathan Fozard. ODL will operate as a new office of Digital Learning and Academic Technologies within ITS, but will continue to administer the same services and be located in their same on-campus location. ODL and ITS leadership will convene over the next several weeks to formulate a plan for merging existing resources and operations.

ODL will operate as a new office of Digital Learning and Academic Technologies within ITS, continuing under the direction of Robby Fuselier. This change is aimed to create further synergies and streamline technical processes to enhance the user experience, improve efficiency, and foster innovation.
ITS and ODL have partnered closely in the past, working collaboratively to provide exceptional technological resources and academic experiences for the university. By bringing the two teams together, the staff can be more efficient when leveraging university technology to advance FSU’s academic offerings.
ODL is a new office of Digital Learning and Academic Technologies within ITS, under the leadership of ODL Director Robert Fuselier. The Technology-Enhanced Classrooms team will join the ODL team to enhance the overall technology experience when facilitating our world-class instruction and research efforts.
The vision for technology at FSU is stated in the RISE 2030 campaign. The campaign focuses on making investments and advancements in the areas of Research and Instruction, Innovation and Modernization, Security and Compliance, and Engagement and Student Success. Through the transition, we leverage the expertise and resources of both units to enhance the quality and accessibility of both in-person and remote instruction at FSU.
ODL will become the Office of Digital Learning and Academic Technologies within ITS on April 5, 2024.
Faculty, staff, and students will continue to receive support through all the same channels as today. Support is available Monday- Friday from 8:00 – 5:00 for ODL and the myFSU Service Desk. Classroom support has extended hours from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.

ODL’s priorities remain the same - to provide innovative and effective digital learning solutions for FSU faculty and students. ODL will continue to offer the same services they do today—administering Canvas, supporting online course design and overseeing university testing services. The move to ITS will not affect the quality or availability of these services, but rather enhance them by providing more resources, collaboration, and alignment with the university’s strategic goals.
