Generic/Shared Mailboxes

Generic and Shared Mailboxes

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides generic and shared Exchange mailboxes for departmental use.  We provide a mailbox that allows our users to utilize an email account separate from their standard FSU employee/staff email address.  We will issue generic mailboxes once the following details are provided:

  • Name of the generic mailbox (Dept-MailboxName)
  • The preferred aliases: @fsu.edu, @admin.fsu.edu, @campus.fsu.edu, etc.
  • A list of FSUID’s for all users who need access, and the user who is going to manage access to the mailbox
  • What is the purpose of the generic mailbox?

Users will gain access to generic mailboxes by entering in their FSU credentials (FSUID & Password).  The mailbox can be configured on a variety of different Microsoft email clients such as:

  • Outlook 2007/2011
  • Outlook for Mac 2011
  • Outlook Web App (OWA)
  • Thunderbird for Mac

To request a generic mailbox please submit a case at http://servicecenter.fsu.edu.  For questions on how to access your generic mailbox please proceed to: http://faq.its.fsu.edu/Email/Exchange-2010/General-FAQs/How-do-I-access-my-generic-mailbox
