Database Hosting - SQL Server

Information Technology Services currently maintains a clustered SQL Server database environment that includes SQL Server Reporting Services. Hosting components include account management, storage space, and backup/restore (limited to 10 days for restores) to enable departments to develop and maintain their own SQL Server databases.

  • Microsoft SQL Server is utilized at FSU to host various enterprise-level applications that require a smaller database management platform, such as that needed by various vendor applications.
  • Currently it serves as the database platform for a host of applications such as DM, CoFax, Saint Capture, and CyberDocs Open; and for websites that require a small but low-maintenance, efficient database engine.
  • SQL Server is perfect for the small to medium-sized customer databases.
  • SQL Server 2005 is run on Windows Server 2003 in a secure, clustered environment. Two servers, each with four CPU’s and 8 GB of RAM, support each node of the cluster. Since access to the cluster is tightly controlled, we recommend connecting to the cluster through application servers to limit exposure directly from client desktops.
  • Once a customer’s database is built on SQL Server, we provide full maintenance services, with a three week backup/recovery window.
